Residents blocked the main road leading to Nahr al-Bared refugee camp after Israa Ismail and her grandmother, Wadad Mustapha, died at the Al-Khair Hospital in Minyeh following a hit-and-run accident. At noon Monday, protesters held a rally outside the UNRWA offices in the Beddawi Palestinian refugee camp in north Lebanon, and in Nahr al-Bared camp to call for the establishment of a hospital in the area and increased health care aid.Hamas Official Ahmad Assadi said he held UNRWA responsible for the deaths, citing the agency's failure to establish a hospital in Nahr al-Bared and the poorly equipped clinic Ismail was taken to. In 2008, several countries promised funding to rebuild the camp and support Palestinians during the reconstruction process. This has forced the agency to restructure aid to Palestinians.Palestinians living in Lebanon's 12 refugee camps have been protesting UNRWA's changed health care policies since January.
