Salafists protested Sunday the detention of former Mufti Sheikh Bassam al-Tarras outside the Military Tribunal in Beirut, accusing authorities of oppressing the Sunni Muslim community.Around 100 people attended the protest, organized by the Muslim Scholars Committee. Tarras was previously detained and released last month following pressure from political and religious authorities over his alleged involvement in the Aug. 31 roadside bombing in the Bekaa Valley city of Zahle. Tarras was summoned again Thursday by police for questioning regarding "security issues" and has remained in detention since.Authorities grew suspicious of Tarras after Ali Ghanem, who was suspected of planting the bomb, said that he had met Tarras through Mohammad Qassem al-Ahmad.
