The bloc's statement came in response to Amal official and Finance Minister Ali Hasan Khalil who said earlier in the day that his party would oppose any Sunni-Maronite bilateral relationship. He was making reference to a potential deal between the FPM and the Future Movement for FPM founder Michel Aoun to become president. The minister explained that Amal MPs would become part of the opposition if Aoun was elected president, expressing resentment from the FPM for leaving Berri in the dark concerning Aoun's political consultations.
