MP Sleiman Frangieh's participation so far in the campaign for the presidency will prove positive for the Marada Movement leader down the road even though his rival Michel Aoun's election is assured. Frangieh has asked MPs backing him for the post to cast a blank ballot during Parliament's 46th attempt to elect a president. However, at the age of 51, Frangieh will become a serious presidential candidate in the future if he fails to emerge victorious in this year's polls.Frangieh was brought up in a political environment since his grandfather, also named Sleiman Frangieh, was the fifth president of Lebanon from 1970 to 1976 .Former President Frangieh developed close ties with Syrian President Hafez Assad which led to inter-Lebanese tensions during the Civil War.
