The Kataeb Party announced Sunday the suspension of a nearly four-week-long protest outside the Burj Hammoud landfill site over "health concerns," a move which should prompt the resumption of local trash collection.Seven Kataeb protesters had been admitted to the hospital after being exposed to trash for a period of time, the party has said, as mounds of garbage began to pile up across parts of Beirut and its eastern suburbs due to the blocked access to the landfill. In March, the government reached an apparent solution to the eight-month-long garbage crisis that saw the infamous Naameh landfill reopened for two months to dump the decomposing waste that had piled up since its closure in the summer of 2015 .Kataeb supporters had been holding protests against the government's trash plan at the landfill site since Aug. 16, bringing construction to a halt.
