Defense attorneys at the Special Tribunal for Lebanon launched a sustained attack on the prosecution's previous evidence Wednesday, challenging the accuracy of a cellular map designed to trace the alleged conspirators' movements. No complete, contemporary map of cellular coverage exists.Mair was particularly critical of coverage maps turned over to the prosecution by alfa, one of Lebanon's two GSM networks. In 2007, alfa produced a set of maps showing coverage as it existed in 2005, at the time of the assassination. Prosecutors have attempted to demonstrate that the two maps largely confirm one another, and that any omissions or inconsistencies are rare, minor or irrelevant. But Mair contended Wednesday that discrepancies between the maps were significant and could not be reconciled, alleging prosecutors were trying to marry data together to hide underlying deficiencies.
