Lebanon's public schools opened their doors Monday, but for many children in the country it is just another day of hard work.In August, the Lebanese government reviewed and put a three-year delay on the full implementation of its National Action Plan to Eliminate the Worst Forms of Child Labor, originally scheduled for completion in November. The plan included comprehensive strategies to get kids out of work and into schools, as well as support their families based on three objectives: prevention, the removal of children from employment, and rehabilitation. The NAP was drafted by the Labor Ministry and the International Labor Organization within the context of commitments to eliminate the worst forms of child labor by 2016 .The same dire national economic situation that Shalita said causes the lack of available government funding for NAP also drives the poverty that forces children into work to help support their family. The particular plight of Syrian children was not included in the original NAP, which addressed the existing challenges in the country in 2012 .Issues relating to child labor and the consequences for children exposed to hazardous conditions are now included, Bohorquez explained.
