Antoine Howayek, head of the Lebanese Farmers' Association, Thursday called for a "day of rage" to take place in Lebanon on Oct. 1, warning the government against procrastinating on the farmers' demands.Howayek said that the apple farmers' are calling on the state to support the apple season by paying LL8,000 ($5.30) in return for each box weighing 20 kg.Agriculture Minister Akram Chehayeb said Tuesday that Lebanese apple farmers may be able to export their produce to Jordan by the end of October, pointing out a seperate possible export route to Moscow, but lamented the high costs.He said the overall situation in the region, including the closure of Lebanon's border with Syria and climate change, have negatively impacted apple farmers in Lebanon.
