Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre advocated for closer ties between Lebanon and Canada Thursday on the sidelines of an international mayors' conference.The mayor arrived in Beirut to take part in the 36th General Assembly of the International Association of Francophone Mayors. Montreal, the second most populated municipality in the country, has taken in just under 4,000 displaced people.Coderre's career has given him the tools to handle the influx of Syrian refugees in Montreal. Before being elected mayor of Montreal, he was the immigration minister.As a member of the IAFM, and as mayor of Montreal, Coderre has focused more on creating intimate relationships between cities, rather than countries as a whole.
