Interior Minister Nouhad Machnouk on Thursday ordered all quarries across Lebanon to stop operations for one month, just one day after he ordered quarries in the Aley district town of Kfar Matta to halt.Quarries have been operating illegally and on an ad-hoc basis, with investors not acquiring licenses from the National Council for Quarries and Crushers that would authorize their activities, said Environment Minister Tarek Khatib on Wednesday. The statement noted that Machnouk previously called for a halt to work in quarries in the Aley district town of Aghmeed.
