BEIRUT: Lebanon is jeopardized by Israel and extremists, said Security General head Maj. Gen. Abbas Ibrahim on Sunday.
“We are asked, at this time, to be alert that Lebanon is on the danger line where Israeli intimidations and Takfiri threats,” Ibrahim said.
Ibrahim stressed that all Lebanese are targeted as Lebanon enjoys “a unique co-existence that is the cultural antipode of Israel and Takfiris.”
Israeli officials routinely threaten to wipe out Lebanese infrastructure and civilian targets in the event of another war. Mid-March, Lebanon submitted to the United Nations Security Council a list of Israeli threats against Lebanon.
Lebanese Army and security forces have stepped up pre-emptive strikes against sleeper cells across Lebanon since conflict erupted in neighboring Syria in 2011. The security measures have been praised by Lebanese officials as the country has been saved from continuous blasts that have hit Egypt, Turkey and numerous other countries in the Middle East.
