Lebanon held Army Day festivities Tuesday after a two year absence of the celebration due to the presidential vacuum, at a time when the Army is engaged in anti-terrorism activities in the northeast of the country.Celebrations kicked off on Tuesday morning at the Lebanese Army Military Academy in Fayadieh, under the chairmanship of President Michel Aoun and in the presence of House Speaker Nabih Berri, Prime Minister Saad Hariri and other political and military figures. Politicians weighed in to commend the Lebanese Army for its bravery in the ongoing fight against militants on Lebanon's border with Syria.The lawmaker's statement added that the Army has proved repeatedly its ability to fight, monitor and prevent terrorism.In remarks addressed to troops Monday, on the eve of the 72nd anniversary of the founding of the Army, Army Commander Gen. Joseph Aoun praised the courage of his men.British Charge D'Affaires Benjamin Wastnage praised the Lebanese Army.
