Lebanese officials Friday called for security measures to be bolstered over the Christmas and New Year period.Present at the meeting was State Prosecutor Judge Samir Hammoud, Director-General of the Internal Security Forces Maj.Machnouk Friday was briefed on the latest developments by General Security Director-General Maj.Lebanese Army Commander Gen. Joseph Aoun also asked for vigilance over the holiday period during an inspection of the 1st and 2nd Land Border Regiments at the Lebanese-Syrian borders in Akkar and Ras Baalbeck, and the 9th Infantry Brigade in Arsal. The commander praised the military's efforts to protect the borders and prevent infiltration and smuggling, the statement said.Aoun added that the Army is capable of confronting any external or internal threats.
