Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil was hit with calls for his resignation Thursday after comments he made about Israel's status in a televised interview earlier this week.After a clip of the interview broadcast on Al-Mayadeen Dec. 26 circulated on social media and news outlets, a statement from Bassil's office reported that it was "clear that the purpose of this [edited version] is to distort [Bassil's position], which is known to be that Israel as an entity practices state-terrorism.The statement likely referred to comments Bassil made at an Arab League summit in response to United States President Donald Trump's controversial decision to recognize occupied Jerusalem as Israel's capital and move the embassy there.
