Iraqi Shiite cleric Moqtada Sadr arrives in Beirut

BEIRUT: Prominent Iraqi Shiite leader Moqtada Sadr arrived in Beirut Friday, a source told The Daily Star.

Sadr is the head of Sadrist Movement, a prominent Iraqi political faction taking part in the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces militia fighting against Daesh (ISIS) in Iraq.

The cleric is expected to meet prominent Shiite figures in Lebanon to discuss regional issues.

Sadr's last visit to Beirut was in August 2016.
