Information Minister Melhem Riachi trumpeted "a victory for media [professionals] in Lebanon" the day after Cabinet sent a draft law to Parliament enabling all journalists to become a part of the Lebanese Press Syndicate.Riachi's new proposal will allow, for example, a journalist to become a TV reporter without leaving the syndicate.As for a timeline of the draft's ratification, Riachi said that the audio-visual draft law will be discussed next week, while the draft law dealing with the syndicate will hopefully be discussed in Parliament the week after.Riachi was quoted as saying Thursday that the plan to develop the syndicate had become a reality after this week's Cabinet session.
