Lawmakers on Monday said they will file a legal challenge with the intention of overturning a controversial rent law that would raise rents for thousands of long-term tenants.The new law will affect some 200,000 apartments in the Beirut area leased under the old rent law prior to 1992 .MPs Ziad Aswad, Khaled Daher, Marwan Fares, Walid Sukkarieh, Naji Gharios, Abbas Hashem, Abdel-Latif Zein, Assem Qanso and Dory Chamoun have signed the challenge, which will be referred to the Constitutional Council.
