The trial of an extremist preacher's was adjourned again Tuesday, as Islamist prisoners continued their hunger strike demanding a general amnesty, a judicial source told The Daily Star. The source said that Assir's lawyers and 17 other extremist militants closely affiliated with the preacher also refused to attend Tuesday's court hearing.Assir is on trial with 33 others, including former pop singer Fadl Shaker, who is being tried in absentia, on charges over the June 2013 clashes with the Lebanese Army in Sidon's Abra neighborhood.Lebanese authorities arrested Assir at Beirut's Rafik Hariri International Airport in 2015, after he had been on the run for more than two years. A military judge last year sought the death penalty for Assir and 56 others, including Shaker, for involvement in the Abra clashes.
