President Michel Aoun Wednesday said that Hezbollah was fighting a war against terrorism and its fighters would return to Lebanon once the battle was over. The next war in the Middle East seemed unavoidable.Q: However Hariri continues to insist on Lebanon's "dissociation," which means Hezbollah's disengagement from the region.A: Hezbollah fought against the terrorists of Daesh (ISIS) in Lebanon and beyond. When the war against terrorism ends, its fighters will return to the country.Lebanon and Syria are neighboring countries and they have to cooperate. The understanding with Syria enabled us to secure our border and defeat Daesh.Q: Your cohabitation with Hezbollah, however, is poorly understood and the West criticizes it. A: Hezbollah is first and foremost a Lebanese resistance force that was formed against Israel's aggression. Lebanon never started a war and the Lebanese consider Hezbollah a defense force, not a terrorist party. The accusations of terrorism toward Hezbollah were never proven.Q: A new Middle East has emerged from the fight against Daesh, where Iran's influence is stronger. A peaceful Syria is essential also for Lebanon.
