Massive fires erupted Monday in different areas of the Chouf, sparking fears among residents as it spread rapidly.Residents of Jahilieh in the Chouf called on the Lebanese Army to send helicopters to assist the Civil Defense in extinguishing a woodland fire in the area, a security source told The Daily Star.Large fires this year have scorched the northern district of Akkar, the Mount Lebanon town of Rashmaya – where three fires have devastated forested land in the last decade – and the biologically diverse Chouwen and Jabal Moussa regions of Kesrouan, where 100 Civil Defense firefighters and the Army battled a blaze for 10 days.
