For the second day in a row, U.S. government officials Wednesday discussed the threats posed by Hezbollah to Lebanon, the region and U.S. interests.However, the committee, divided on U.S. policy toward Lebanon, argued over continued support to Lebanon and conditioning support, especially to the Lebanese Army.saying,"If we disengage from Lebanon, we give it to those who have it hostage like Iran, Hezbollah, and we need to back moderate forces who are in fact in control of Lebanon".He said Lebanon is a "dysfunctional democracy" because it is a captured state that cannot be disengaged from, and stressed that a safe, stable, prosperous Lebanon was key to advancing U.S. interests and Lebanon has a critical role to play in the campaign to defeat Daesh (ISIS).
