Free Patriotic Movement President Gebran Bassil Friday said that his party rejected permanent settlement of refugees in Lebanon, saying it would undermine Lebanon's independence.As a result of the heavy Syrian bombardment, Aoun, who was then a military commander, fled to the French Embassy before the Syrian army reached the palace.Aoun returned to Lebanon in May 2005, a few weeks after Syria withdrew its army from Lebanon under local and international pressures, ending nearly three decades of its domination of the country.
