This article was amended on Wednesday, September 13 2017

This story was updated to clarify that the meeting of security heads Monday was not a meeting of the Higher Defense Council itself, which is chaired by President Michel Aoun, but a meeting of the country's key security institutions that are all included in body and came days after the HDC met. The security heads discussed some of the topics raised by the HDC as well as other matters.
