Declaring that Lebanon's security is a top priority for the government, Prime Minister Saad Hariri said in remarks published Thursday that the Lebanese state is alone responsible for guaranteeing the security of all the Lebanese, in an indirect jab at Hezbollah's arsenal posing as a divisive issue. Hariri also said that last month's Rome II conference, in support of the Lebanese Army and security forces, indicated that one of the conditions for maintaining stability in Lebanon is the strengthening of the Army and all Lebanese security forces.Hariri stressed that the Rome II conference provided a new proof of the entire international community's great interest in Lebanon.The international community made clear statements at the Rome II conference urging Lebanon to discuss a National Defense Strategy.Thursday, acting U.N. Special Coordinator for Lebanon Pernille Dahler Kardel said that Aoun's call to discuss a national defense strategy had contributed to the success of the Rome II conference.
