Future Movement caretaker Minister of State for Refugee Affairs Mouin Merehbi said he rejected direct coordination with the Syrian regime regarding refugees, according to the state-run National News Agency. The issue of normalizing political relations with the Syrian regime, which has been broached by Hezbollah and its allies, has been opposed mainly by Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri and his Future Movement, the Lebanese Forces and other Lebanese parties.Caretaker Foreign Minister and FPM leader Gebran Bassil had launched a separate committee within the FPM in July to coordinate refugees' return, saying they posed a threat to Lebanon's identity and economy.Bassil claimed that the FPM was in a good position to encourage the Syrian refugees' return, because the party did not have foreign allegiances and had no issues with the Syrian regime.
