Both the Environment and Justice ministries have taken action to hold accountable those responsible for the waters of Zahle's Berdawni River turning black, statements from the ministries reported Tuesday. An Environment Ministry statement said that caretaker Minister Tarek Khatib was following up on the pollution of the river, whose restaurant-lined banks make it a popular tourist site in Zahle. A statement from the Justice Ministry, meanwhile, reported that the environmental public prosecutor in Bekaa had instructed the Judicial Police to investigate the reasons for the pollution and take the necessary measures to prosecute those responsible.
