The Supreme Judicial Council called Wednesday for the "necessary action" to be taken by the public prosecutor's office after LBCI comedy sketch show host Hisham Haddad reacted to previous charges that were brought against him with a sketch that made fun of the prosecutor. At one point, Haddad sang a song in which he pointed out issues facing the country, including Lebanon's protracted waste management crisis and alleged corruption in the electricity sector, and alluded to the judiciary's lack of action in tackling them. The announcement came a day after Reporters without Borders and Human Rights Watch released statements raising concerns over threats to freedom of expression in Lebanon due to the recent prosecution of journalists, television hosts and activists on charges that were similar to Haddad's.
