Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil Friday addressed participants in the Lebanese Diaspora Energy Conference in Abidjan via a recorded video, saying he was not attending in order to protect those in attendance.Bassil's lack of attendance came after the foreign ministry Thursday assured the conference would go ahead as scheduled, despite calls by some in the diaspora for it to be postponed as a result of tensions at home.The row between Berri and Bassil was sparked after a video surfaced of Bassil calling Berri– a "thug" Monday.The row is just the latest episode of a months-long feud between Berri and President Michel Aoun, Bassil's father in-law and founder of the Free Patriotic Movement party Bassil now heads.
