Leaders aim to bolster stability after Israel threatsTop leaders will seek during their get-together this week to de-escalate political tensions and shore up stability in the face of Israel's threats against Lebanon's offshore oil and gas exploration, officials said Sunday. President Michel Aoun, Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Saad Hariri are scheduled to huddle together before noon Tuesday at Baabda Palace to discuss, among other things, measures Lebanon should take in light of Israeli comments on oil and gas exploration in south Lebanon's Block 9 .The Baabda meeting between the three leaders comes against the backdrop of last week's heightened tensions between the Free Patriotic Movement, founded by Aoun, and the Amal Movement, headed by Berri, fueled by a video in which Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil, the FPM leader, was shown calling Speaker Nabih Berri a "thug".Aoun, Berri and Hariri condemned comments made last week by Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman on Lebanon's offshore oil and gas, especially Block 9 .Berri said last week's street protests by his supporters would not affect the parliamentary elections.
