Environment Minister Tarek Khatib is set to chair six conferences across Lebanon over the coming weeks to discuss his recently endorsed waste management plan, a statement from his office said Thursday.The subsequent conferences will focus on southern regions including Nabatieh, followed by the North and Akkar and then the Bekaa, Baalbeck and Hermel.Khatib's plan was endorsed by cabinet along with an expansion to the Costa Brava landfill in addition to increasing the catchment area of the landfill to include the Chouf and Aley regions, a move criticized by environmental groups.
