Speaker Nabih Berri asked the United States for assistance in demarcating Lebanon's southern maritime Exclusive Economic Zone Thursday in a meeting with the American top diplomat.Berri also relayed the work of the tripartite committee, consisting of Israeli and Lebanese members mediated by the United Nations, which regularly meets at the southernmost point of Naqoura to discuss issues between Israel and Lebanon.Berri called for U.S. "assistance," especially as he said Israel does not recognize the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea and has not signed the U.N. convention on the Law of the Sea.The U.S. in January withheld $65 million out of $125 million in funding from the agency.
