Lawyers for Salim Ayyash and Hassan Merhi maintained this week that the decision of the defense team for Hussein Oneissi to file a judgment of acquittal would not affect their strategies. The Oneissi team's decision could potentially result in having charges against their client dropped. While submissions for a judgment of acquittal are common, Anderson highlighted that decisions ending in a no-case to answer are rare but not unprecedented. If judges ultimately reject the Oneissi defense team's submission, the team still maintains the right to appeal the decision before the court moves forward. It is not immediately clear what the defense strategy is in their submission. The only fact that can be inferred from the decision is the defense's belief that the prosecution's case could possibly be weak enough for Oneissi's acquittal.
