Defense Minister Yaacoub Sarraf said Saturday that Lebanon would not wage a war on Israel, but would defend its sovereignty and land, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in Germany.Sarraf was asked about the recent spike in Israeli rhetoric against Lebanon over claims to potential oil and gas reserves in the Mediterranean Sea and over the construction of a cement security wall along the border.U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson recently discussed a proposal to resolve the dispute over the demarcation of Lebanon's southern maritime Exclusive Economic Zone with Lebanon's political leaders. Sarraf reportedly met with Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, briefing him on Lebanon's position with regards to the southern disputes.
