Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai took President Michel Aoun's side Friday in an ongoing feud with Speaker Nabih Berri over a controversial decree promoting a number of Army officers.Aoun and Berri have been embroiled in a month-long standoff sparked by the signing of a controversial decree promoting a number of Army officers who served under Aoun when he was Army commander in the late 1980s.The controversial decree, signed last month by Aoun, Prime Minister Saad Hariri and Defense Minister Yaacoub Sarraf – but not by the finance minister – has ramped up tensions between Aoun and Berri.
