Israel border wall could cause conflict: U.N. envoy

Lebanon’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Amal Mudallali speaks on Jan. 25, 2018. (The Daily Star/ UN Lebanon Mission, Twitter)

This article was amended on Monday, January 29 2018

This article previously stated that U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701 calls for the disarmament of all Lebanese and non-Lebanese militias and has been updated to better reflect the terms of the resolution.

The bill does, however, call for the "full implementation of the relevant provisions of the Taif Accords, and of resolutions 1559 (2004) and 1680 (2006), that require the disarmament of all armed groups in Lebanon, so that, pursuant to the Lebanese cabinet decision of 27 July 2006, there will be no weapons or authority in Lebanon other than that of the Lebanese State."

The Daily Star regrets any confusion caused by this error.
