This story has been updated as per a correction from AFP news agency. The head of the U.N. agency for Palestinians, Pierre Krahenbuhl, was miss quoted as saying that the political dimension of U.S. cuts meant "Washington could no longer remain the main mediator in peace talks." UNRWA has clarified that Mr. Krahenbuhl did not, in fact, say this and as such the story has been updated to remove this. The Daily Star is sorry for this error.
