BEIRUT: The Italian Armed Forces and the Lebanese Presidential Guard Brigade marked Wednesday the conclusion of training courses offered by the IAF.

As part of the bilateral training activity, the IAF offered courses for the PGB in close protection (bodyguard training) and casualty care and for the Lebanese Navy in antipollution techniques. Seventeen female soldiers of the PGB were trained for the close protection team.

Italy has been investing in the Italian Bilateral Military Mission in Lebanon (MIBIL) since 2015 by deploying the best of its IAF trainers to Lebanon, a statement from the Italian embassy said. Italy has increased its training activity with the Lebanese Army following the Rome II international conference in March of this year held to support Lebanon's security apparatuses.

The IAF has implemented 22 new courses in the past three months, benefiting 619 Army personnel, the statement said.
