Residents of the Nabatieh town of Mayfadoun Tuesday staged a protest against a local judge's decision to reopen a nearby landfill. Nabatieh Judge of Urgent Matters Ahmed Mezher issued a decision to reopen the landfill located between Mayfadoun and the nearby town of Shoukeen temporarily for one week before it is closed entirely.Local resident Ibrahim Ritayel said in a speech at the protest the dump was accepting waste from six local towns and villages, having a direct negative impact on the people. He said the decision to reopen the landfill was "surprising" given an expert had assessed the site just the day before and had not yet filed his report.
