This article was amended on Sunday, December 02 2018

An earlier version of this article quoted caretaker Tourism Minister Avedis Guidanian as saying that tourist numbers in 2017 were the highest in 50 years. This is incorrect: In 2017, the number of tourists in Lebanon was the highest since 2011. The Daily Star regrets this error.
