Mayor Fouad Yassin Thursday denied foul play after dead fish were found in a small lake in his town of Kfar Tibnit in Nabatieh, an incident that had prompted allegations the fish had been poisoned or infected with a contagious disease. In any case, the fish in the pond were not kept there to be eaten, Yassin said, as the pond was used to irrigate fields nearby and the fish were of a decorative nature.Yassin said the municipality found dead fish in the pond almost every year, though he said he had recently noticed an increase.
