Interior Minister Nouhad Machnouk Sunday weighed in on the recent developments in the case of actor Ziad Itani, drawing on his own personal experience of exile in the late 1990s.In a statement carried by the state-run National News Agency, Machnouk said that his decision to stand by Itani – who was charged with collaborating with Israel – and to declare the actor's innocence before the judiciary resulted from his own struggle with similar accusations. Machnouk took to Twitter to respond to the news, opining that all Lebanese should apologize for Itani, and implying that the actor had been acquitted.Jreissati's comments prompted Machnouk, in his statement Sunday, to indirectly respond.
