SIDON, Lebanon: High-ranking local security officials held an emergency meeting after an unknown individual was believed to have entered south Lebanon's Ain al-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp with large amounts of money to fund militant groups.Present in the meeting was a Palestinian delegation, including the head of Palestinian National Security Forces in Lebanon, Gen. Sobhi Abu Arab, representative of Osbat al-Ansar, Sheikh Abu Tarek al-Saadi, and representative of Islamic Jihad Movement, Sheikh Jamal Khattab.Ain al-Hilweh – one of 12 official refugee camps in Lebanon – is arguably the most unstable with violence regularly breaking out.A joint Palestinian security force is in charge of maintaining calm inside the camp, however, chronic underfunding and divides in the makeup of the force – drawn from moderate Islamic factions and nationalist forces – has left the unit unable to exert control over much of the camp.
