This article was amended on Thursday, March 08 2018

A previous version of this story reported that Zakka is a dual Lebanese-American citizen, and that Iran considers Zakka to be a spy. Zakka in fact holds permanent residency in the United States, and, according to his family, the Iranian authorities have never refered to Zakka as a spy or accused him of spying. The Daily Star regrets these errors.
