Baalbeck-Hermel has long been an electoral stronghold of Hezbollah with its lists dominating the area's 10 seats for decades. The district has six Shiite seats, two Sunni, one Maronite and one Catholic. As things stand, the Future Movement and Lebanese Forces will form an alliance in the hope that they can get at least one Sunni and the Maronite elected. A strong list formed of an alliance between the LF, Future and Shiite candidates will give Hezbollah, who are running with their long-term ally Amal Movement, a run for their money in Baalbeck-Hermel.MP Emile Rahme will be the Maronite candidate for this list. The FPM hasn't shown an interest in contesting the seat, and will likely be looking at the Catholic seat, although Hezbollah doesn't look ready to budge. The LF hopes that under the new system, Baalbeck-Hermel will have party representation against Hezbollah.Coupled with the LF's Antoine Habchi and Future's Solh and Hujeiri, it remains to be seen whether the FPM will align and endorse a Catholic candidate on this list or run separately.SHIITE OPPOSITIONOpposing Shiite figures in the area will also look to take a seat or two from the Hezbollah-Amal list.
