The Cabinet is set to meet in a special session Monday to endorse the 2018 draft state budget that contains long-awaited economic reforms before sending it to Parliament for final ratification, Finance Minister Ali Hasan Khalil said Sunday night.Khalil spoke to reporters after a nearly two-hour meeting of a nine-member ministerial committee tasked with studying provisions of the 2018 budget chaired by Prime Minister Saad Hariri at the Grand Serail. Meanwhile, Hariri urged his supporters Sunday to vote for the Future Movement's lists in the upcoming parliamentary elections, saying their votes would help protect Lebanon's stability, economy, sovereignty and Arabism. He spoke at a mass Future rally during which he announced the names of 37 Future Movement candidates, including four women, for Lebanon's first parliamentary elections in nine years, slated for May 6 . Headed by Hariri, the committee has been meeting over the past two weeks in a bid to wrap up the draft budget in time for a final endorsement by the Cabinet and Parliament ahead of three international donor conferences in support of Lebanon and parliamentary elections.
