Although Interior Minister Nouhad Machnouk says he can't predict the outcome of the Rome II conference later this week, he expressed his pride at what he calls the Internal Security Forces' positive transformation, which will be displayed before the international community through the agency's strategic plan. Spearheading this change since assuming his position in 2014, Machnouk said that a few years ago the ISF was not always seen as a security agency responsible for maintaining the country's stability but now was starting to be. The plan will be presented Thursday at the Rome II conference, organized to garner support for the Lebanese Army and security agencies. The strategy, which lays out the ISF's strategic objectives and subobjectives for the 2018-2022 period, as well as future programs and projects, has been in the making for over a year and Machnouk said it was the first in the agency's history. Machnouk said that as the elections are sure to change the political scene, one of the main priorities for the authorities post-elections will be to work on a national defense strategy.Machnouk acknowledged that such a task would not be easy.
