The American University of Beirut Medical Center Tuesday launched a Cancer Support Fund, a first in the country that specifically aims to aid adults diagnosed with cancer, the National News Agency reported.Hasbani said the fund would also work on improving local research on the disease and provide "specialists in various scientific and medical fields".He additionally raised concerns over the high treatment costs, adding that expenditure on cancer medication had reached $53 million a year – which he said constitutes 53 percent of the total expenditure on all medication in the country.
