Christian political parties and the Future Movement issued statements Wednesday warning the Lebanese University against granting tenure to 570 professors, a majority of whom are Shiite.Dr. Antoine Sayyah, president of the Association of Friends of the Lebanese University, said.Fifty-two percent of the professors newly up for tenured posts are Shiite.A statement from Ora Union – an organization dealing with civic issues – released Wednesday said that educational figures and political parties had met and were calling for sectarian balance to be ensured in regards to tenured posts.Representatives of the Lebanese Forces, Free Patriotic Movement, Kataeb Party, Marada Movement and Tashnag Party attended the meeting.
