Intermittent heavy rains have showered Lebanon over the past week, with thunder and lightning putting a damper on the early beach season.Although the weather office described wind and rainfall during May as "ordinary," the blustery weather has taken many by surprise.Beirut has seen roughly 40 millimeters of rain so far in May, Abbas Obeid, weather expert at the Rafik Hariri International Airport's Meteorological Department, told The Daily Star Sunday, noting exact numbers were not yet available as figures are compiled at the end of the month.Despite the recent hike, the current rain year's recorded rainfall is still "significantly below the average".As for the coming days, Obeid said the weather will remain fickle Monday with scattered showers.
