The two monkeys arrived at Beirut's airport terrified and hungry. It remains unknown who the smugglers were or where exactly the monkeys were destined to be transported to within Lebanon. But the two rare West African monkeys – Benny and Nia – have now begun a new chapter after Animals Lebanon nursed the pair back to health and helped transfer them to Monkey World, a primate sanctuary in the United Kingdom, earlier this month.Nearly 5,000 kilometers away in southern England, Benny and Nia are also a novel sight – they are the only two known white-throated guenons to exist outside of Nigeria and Benin, according to Monkey World's official Twitter page.Mier, who helped coordinate their transfer to the U.K. and keeps in touch with staff at Monkey World, said the two guenons continue to improve in their new British surroundings.
